Rowing regatta has Sarasota starry-eyed

Folks are still gushing about last weekend's rowing regatta at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.
"It was beyond all expectations. I would describe it as pure magic," says Paul Blackketter, project manager for Benderson Development, which is putting together the nearby Town Center mall on University Parkway at Interstate 75.

COUNTY TO CONSIDER EAST FRUITVILLE LAND PLAN - Spring 2010
>> Five property owners of 300 acres along Fruitville Road east of I-75 have agreed to work on a smart growth master plan to create an employment center there. The Sarasota County Commission will consider entering a three-to-four month master planning process at its Feb. 10 meeting. Pasadena-based planning firm Moule & Polyzoides would create the plan, which would cost an estimated $499,410.The property owners are Glenn and Margaret Walters, Byron and Luella MCrofut, Fox Creek Holdings LLC, Thomas Kelly, Sarasota Business Plaza LLP & Sarasota Co

Growth vision approved for Fruitville Initiative. 10-27-10
A build-out vision for the 420 acres adjacent to Interstate 75 and north and south of Fruitville Road is now an adopted policy with Sarasota County's comprehensive plan.
Sarasota County commissioners approved the changes to the comprehensive plan Wednesday, Oct. 27, after years of discussions about what was appropriate development for the area, described by many as a gateway to Sarasota. The land currently carries designations as a major employment center and moderate density residential on the future land use map. INFO
